More Than 200 Events Held in St. Petersburg - Cultural Capital of Commonwealth in 2023

IPA CIS Council Secretary General Dmitriy Kobitskiy took part in the first meeting of the organizing committee for preparing and holding the events “St. Petersburg - the Cultural Capital of the Commonwealth”. A national plan for realization of the program, corporate identity of the project and the logo were approved at the meeting.

The meeting was conducted by Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova. She drew attention to the fact that the city had a special status in the year of its 320th anniversary.

Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov said there were 200 different events, devoted to creative groups, librarians and museum workers of the CIS states.

Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Denis Trefilov reminded that the project “Cultural Capital of the Commonwealth” had been realizing in the region since 2012. The project helps to form a common humanitarian space.

The thematic year in St. Petersburg was opened today by the festival “Meetings in Russia”. The headquarters of IPA CIS - Tavricheskiy Palace - hosted an international conference “Russian Theatre Abroad as an Institute of Russian Culture”.

On the margins of the conference the meeting between Dmitriy Kobitskiy and Secretary of State, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Alla Manilova was held. The parties discussed implementation of joint projects and prospects of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere.

St. Petersburg was declared the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2023 by the decision of the Council of the CIS Heads of State on 14 October 2022 in Astana.
