President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliev signed a decree on Monday announcing early Presidential elections. The elections are scheduled to be held on 11 April 2018. The Central Election Commission of the Azerbaijan Republic was instructed to ensure the conduct of the elections in accordance with the Electoral Code.
According to the results of the referendum which took place on 26 September 2016, the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic was amended extending the term of office of the President from five to seven years. Therefore, at the upcoming elections the President will be elected for a seven-year term for the first time.
