The Republic Day is a national holiday in Azerbaijan celebrated on 28 May every year. This day, in 1918 the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was first declared. This date is also called the day of rebirth of Azerbaijani statehood. The Declaration of Independence, consisting of 5 paragraphs still underpinning the state structure of Azerbaijan, was signed in the halls of the former viceroy palace on Caucasus in Tiflis.
