The Azerbaijan Republic celebrates the 22nd anniversary of the Constitution.
The Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic was adopted in 1995. It became the 4th Constitution of Azerbaijan, thereby reflecting new historic transformation of the country.
The constitutional building process in the Azerbaijan Republic found its history mostly in the Soviet period. Following independence there was a need in drafting a new Constitution. To this end, a special commission headed by President Heydar Aliyev was created. The fundamental law of the country was adopted through a referendum on 12 November 1995.
1995 Constitution laid the foundation of nation-building in the Azerbaijan Republic. It consists of 5 chapters, 12 sections and 158 articles.
