IPA CIS Observers Continue Long-Term Monitoring of Presidential Elections of Russian Federation

The IPA CIS International observers held a meeting with the leadership of the regional election headquarters of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR) in St. Petersburg, from which Leonid Slutskiy will be nominated as a candidate for the upcoming Russian presidential elections.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hayk Chilingaryan, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Shabdanbek Alishev and Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Abdukhalil Gafurzoda in the IPA CIS, as well as observers from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and China, experts from the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Stanislav Epifantsev and Stanislav Tkachenko.

The LDPR was represented by Deputy Chair of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, Head of the faction Pavel Itkin, as well as member of the Municipal Election Committee from the LDPR Valery Nikolaev.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the IPA CIS IIMDD Ivan Mushket, said that international observers from the Assembly participate in monitoring the presidential elections of Russia at the invitation of Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin.

Representatives of the LDPR spoke about the activities of the regional election headquarters in St. Petersburg. According to them, active work is underway with the population — questionnaires are conducted in shopping centers, in which residents report on current problems. This information is analyzed and taken into account when drawing up the LDPR's program. In addition, the candidate's proxies regularly communicate with the residents.

Representatives of the regional headquarters reported that they are conducting an extensive campaign: information about the candidate is presented on 140 banners, in booklets and leaflets in post offices, on the Internet, etc.

Pavel Itkin stressed that representatives of the LDPR interact with the heads of factions of other parties. The representatives of the party noted the effective communication with the city election commission.

Answering the observers’ questions, they also spoke about the activities of the youth wing of the St. Petersburg branch of the LDPR.
