IPA CIS Observers Discussed Innovations of Upcoming Elections to Mazhilis with CEC of Republic of Kazakhstan

IPA CIS international Observers headed by Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy discussed the preparations for the parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan with Chair of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Abdirov. The parties exchanged views on the electoral campaign innovations.
Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted that international observer team includes representatives of the IPA CIS parliaments, staff members and experts of International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations. In general, the group will consist of more than 50 people.
The Secretary General said that at the stage of long-term monitoring, a group of IIMDD IPA CIS experts drafted a conclusion on the compliance of national legislation with international standards and commitments of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the electoral sphere.
Nurlan Abdirov highlighted that the upcoming elections would finish a large electoral cycle aimed at resetting the political institutions of Kazakhstan. Formally, the elections are extraordinary, but they were announced by the head of state back in September 2022.
The meeting touched upon measures taken in the Republic to harmonize the country’s election legislation in line with the CIS Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of IPA CIS Council Secretariat, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Igor Musalimov, Deputy Head of IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of IPA CIS IIMDD Ivan Mushket, Secretary of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Erman, expert of the IPA CIS IIMDD Sergey Tkachenko, representatives of IPA CIS IIMDD and the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
