Health Experts Discuss CIS Biosecurity in Case of Influenza Pandemic

A regular meeting of the IPA CIS Expert Advisory Board on Public Health took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters.
The event brought together parliamentarians, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, medical institutions and academic community of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation.
The meeting was opened by Chairman of the IPA CIS Expert Advisory Board on Public Health, RAS Academician Yury Scherbuk.
Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy addressed the participants with a welcoming speech, stressing the significant role of the board in the law-making activity of the Assembly. “The protection of human health is one of the primary functions of the modern social state, and the IPA CIS member states are mainstreaming this key area. The IPA CIS Expert Advisory Board on Public Health contributes to the activities of the IPA CIS permanent commissions in improving the model legislative framework in the field of health protection, development of public health, motherhood and childhood” – noted Dmitriy Kobitskiy.
The agenda of the meeting included the reports on various aspects of the stated problem: UNESCO bioethics policy, WHO Global Influenza Preparedness Plan, identification of potentially pandemic influenza viruses, development and production of influenza vaccines, influenza chemotherapy and the role of clinical guidelines in the treatment of pandemic influenza patients.
Besides, the members of the expert advisory board discussed the proposals for the Long-Term Plan of Model Law-Making of the CIS for 2020-2022 being elaborated by the Assembly. The board decided to appeal to the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights to include Model Laws on Digital Health Care, on Professional Liability Insurance of Medical Workers, etc.
