Draft Statement of IPA CIS Regarding Situation in Gaza Strip Prepared

The IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation considered the draft statement of the IPA CIS on the situation in the Gaza Strip.

The draft statement was presented by Chair of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on International Affairs Grigory Karasin.

MPs consider it necessary to establish a ceasefire regime and contribute to the revival of the peace process. At the meeting, it was decided to approve the draft taking into account the proposals of the members of the commission.

Chair of the Commission, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aigul Kuspan, presented the Draft Regulation on the Status of Observer to the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States to the commission members, which was approved by them. The Status of Observer may be granted to a national parliament or an international organization that has expressed interest in cooperation and establishing contacts with the IPA CIS.

Deputy Chair of the Commission, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev reported on the preparations for the X BRICS Parliamentary Forum which would be held on 10-12 July in Saint Petersburg at the headquarters of the IPA CIS. According to him, during the Russian BRICS Chairmanship, the parliamentary dimension of this association is developing, in this regard, it is necessary to strengthen coordination of work between the delegations of the BRICS countries on different platforms, especially on such as the IPA CIS and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

At the meeting, they considered the issue of coordination of parliaments of the IPA CIS Member Nations in connection with certain resolutions of the European Parliament.

The Commonwealth countries will continue to improve ways of jointly countering various challenges and threats, and work will continue on joint projects of the CIS countries to promote Russian as a language of interethnic communication, as well as to launch practical activities of the International Organization for the Russian Language.

MPs were informed that special attention will be paid within the framework of the chairmanship to prepare for the holding of the Year of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in the Commonwealth in 2025. The Members of the Commission considered a draft plan of events dedicated to the anniversary date.

Konstantin Kosachev also informed the Members of the Commission about the active preparation of the cultural and educational project ”Memory Train”.

The meeting participants discussed the results of the Commission’s work for 2023, as well as past events of international parliamentary organizations.

Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Legal Issues, Chair of the Committee of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Legislation and Human Rights Ravshan Rajabzoda informed the commission members about the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was held in Geneva in March of this year, in which a delegation of the IPA CIS took part. As a result of the session, representatives of more than 50 delegations adopted a declaration condemning the terrorist act in the “Crocus City Hall”.
