Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council met with ICRC President

In the margins of the International conference “The 150th Anniversary of the St. Petersburg Declaration Renouncing the Use, in Time of War, of Explosive Projectiles: New Context, Undiminished Relevance”, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko met with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Peter Maurer.

The parties discussed cooperation between the ICRC and the IPA CIS. Valentina Matvienko noted that the International Committee of the Red Cross and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly has long-standing and fruitful relations. She stressed that the Red Cross makes significant contribution to improving the humanitarian situation in the world, including in such states as Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria.

Peter Maurer stressed that he also commends the cooperation and the joint work with the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, including the preparation of the Conference.

The meeting was attended by Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Alexander Bashkin, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Yury Osipov.
