IPA CIS delegation met with the Speaker of the Senate of Uzbekistan

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council and Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko met with the Speaker of the Senate of Oliy Mazhlis of Uzbekistan Ilgizar Sabirov in Tashkent as part of her official visit to Uzbekistan.

Secretary General – cum – Executive Secretary of the IPA CIS Council Alexey Sergeev, Vice Speaker of the FC Ilyas Umahanov and Senior Deputy Chairman, FC Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Jabarov are part of the mission.

During her negotiations, Valentina Matvienko noted the rising role of parliamentarians in international affairs, including the CIS: growing ties among CIS legislatives are effective in promoting bilateral and plurilateral cooperation.

She further noted that CIS Presidents follow the activities of the IPA CIS and extend to it their support. IPA CIS is engaged in model law-making which contributes to the promotion and harmonization of national laws, to the establishment of a common legal space and fostering integration processes in the CIS. Valentina Matvienko invited the Speaker of the Senate to the series of events on 28-29 November, which includes a session if the IPA CIS Council.
