Tavricheskiy Palace Hosts 7th International Forum “Eurasian Economic Perspective”

The 7th International Forum “Eurasian Economic Perspective” aimed at the development of parliamentary, economic and social cooperation in the framework of the Eurasian economic integration took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters.

The forum brought together the representatives of the Member Parliaments of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Commission, the CIS Executive Committee, the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, as well as rectors of the leading universities of the Eurasian Universities Association, policy-makers, experts, public figures and representatives of business community.

Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Chairman of the IPA CIS Expert Advisory Board on Economy Igor Maksimtsev opened the plenary session, noting that the conference was taking place amid the Summit of the Eurasian Economic Union, which had been held in Yerevan (Republic of Armenia) the day before and had concluded with the signature of the Free Trade Agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union and Singapore.

The welcome addresses by the Speakers of IPA CIS Parliaments were delivered at the plenary session. Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Irina Sokolova delivered the address of Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko.

The Speaker’s address stressed that the integration processes in the post-Soviet area were an essential part of the continental system of interactions, and were aimed at both achieving economic results and creating a new meta-regional center of attraction.

The welcoming remarks of Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich highlighted the high relevance of the forum as a discussion platform, which brought together representatives of the legislative and executive branches of the EAEU countries, scientists, experts and entrepreneurs. The address was delivered by Director of the Center of System Analysis and Strategic Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, member of the Bureau of the Scientific Advisory Board on Socio-Economic Development Issues at the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Valeriy Goncharov.

The Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan was presented by member of the Committee on Economic Policy, Innovative Development and Entrepreneurship Edil Mamytbekov. He delivered the welcome address by Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dariga Nazarbayeva, which emphasized that the EAEU created additional markets for all the Member Nations and enabled them to gain a new momentum in economic development. She also pointed out the increasing international attractiveness of the Union and welcomed the convergence with the European Union and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

Speaker of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin highlighted in his welcoming remarks the role of the parliamentary platforms in coordination of MPs’ activities to address the modern challenges and threats. The speech was delivered by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Nuskabaj.

Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan, Chairman of Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev, Acting Governor of St. Petersburg Lubov Sovershaeva and Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichiy also conveyed their greetings to the participants.

The plenary session was followed by the roundtables dedicated to such issues as the role of regions in Eurasian integration, humanitarian grounds for cooperation, development of the common system of values of the Eurasian integration, economic, legal and educational aspects of engagement. Secretary-in-charge of The Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations (YIPA CIS) Margarita Safarova and IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security Issues Alexander Borisov made presentations at the meetings.

The Secretariat of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly was represented by Deputy Secretaries-in-charge Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Viktor Rogalev and Plenipotentiary Representative of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Petr Ryabukhin.

The 7th International Forum “Eurasian Economic Perspective” takes place in the Tavricheskiy Palace on 2-3 October 2019. The event is co-organized by the St. Petersburg State University of Economics, the Committee on External Relations of St. Petersburg, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Eurasian Universities Association. The forum aims to involve the youth into the processes of the Eurasian integration, develop laws and regulations and unique system of values of the Eurasian integration.
