Role of Parliaments in Effective Development Co-operation Discussed in Geneva

A Summit on effective development co-operation was held on 12-14 December. Event was organized by the multilateral alliance Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation.
The session “Parliaments and Effective Development Co-operation: The Oversight Challenge”, organized by Inter-Parliamentary Union, considered the role of parliaments in development cooperation and noted the importance of parliamentary oversight and control and budgetary functions of parliamentary structures.
The representatives of governments and parliaments, local authorities, civil society, business, trade unions and foundation took part in summit.
Within three days, ten plenary sessions, three regional dialogues and thirteen spotlight sessions were held, during which participants considered wide range of topics, including health issues, climate change, local government, gender equality, civil society and others.
Head of the Department for International Relations, Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation Maximillian Selyutin, staff members of Expert and Analytical Directorate of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Maria Tikhotskaia, Petr Fedotov and Anastasia Kozlova participated in the event as observers via videoconferencing.
