The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (PNND), the Youth Fusion and the World Future Council (WFC) co-organized a webinar on parliamentary action to ensure equal participation in disarmament initiatives. The event took place on 1 December 2022.
The webinar was attended by representatives of international organizations, public and youth associations, experts on disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. Staff members of the Expert and Analytical Directorate of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Maria Tikhotskaia and Anastasia Kozlova took part in the event as observers.
During the discussion, the participants spoke about their own experience and activities of their organizations in the empowerment of women, about the need to create legal framework that would take into account the interests of women in disarmament and ensure gender equality in negotiations during the peaceful conflict resolution. The webinar particularly noted the need for a comprehensive study of the impact of nuclear weapons tests on women’s reproductive health and the key role of MPs in the process of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
