St Petersburg Economic Forum starts its deliberations

This year the Forum will explore the theme Future of Global Economy. Time to Act is Now. This overarching theme will include subthemes one of them being Global Agenda of Sustainable Economic Growth. Under this subtheme the Forum will discuss major drivers of growth and measures to be taken to readjust the economy and stimulate economic growth.
This year’s Furum has a special significance, since Russia holds the chairmanship and will host the G-20 meeting this year. The program of the Forum, therefore, includes events related to the forthcoming G-20 summit.
According to the Secretary General of the IPA CIS Alexey Sergeev who participates in the work of the Forum, the original idea id the Forum in St Petersburg has been advanced by the Federation Council and the IPA CIS. The first nine sessions took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace.
The St Petersburg International Economic Forum is the major economic summit in Russia and the CIS since 1997. Since 1998 it is an annual event. In 2006 it was officially recognized as the central economic forum in the CIS. Prior to 2006 the Forum was sponsored by the IPA CIS and the Federation Council. In 2006 the Russian Ministry of the Economy became a co-organizer. The Forum is supported and attended by the President of the Russian Federation.
