The event, dedicated to the Day of Russian Parliamentarism, was held at the Tavricheskiy Palace, where the country’s first legislators, members of the State Duma of the Russian Empire, worked.
According to the President, the Russian political, public and legal system is working effectively, proving its soundness and true sovereignty under difficult conditions, including external pressure. “The main guarantee of such strength and reliability is the independent choice and trust of the citizens of our country,” Vladimir Putin said.
The priority of issues of security, defense capability, countering external challenges and risks noticeably affects the current structure of the legislative portfolio, the President noted.
Among the tasks outlined by the President are parliamentary control over the implementation of the renewed national projects and receiving reliable feedback from citizens, as well as an objective assessment of transformations.
Vladimir Putin urged parliamentarians to pay special attention to parliamentary diplomacy and to strengthen contacts within the CIS, CSTO, BRICS, SCO, noting that the number of Russia’s friends and associates is growing in different countries and on different continents.
“Russia is open for mutually beneficial cooperation, supports integration processes on the principles of respect for each other’s sovereignty and our common history,” the President said.
