CIS Convention on Legal Assistance Comes into Force in Uzbekistan

On 12 July 2020, the Convention on Legal Assistance and Legal Relations in Civil, Family and Criminal Matters done on 7 October 2002 in Chisinau (Republic of Moldova) came into force in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to the MFA of Uzbekistan, joining the Chisinau Convention would allow for cooperation through central, territorial and other bodies of the parties while providing legal assistance. Besides, the Convention provides for exemption for the citizens and other persons residing in the Member Nations from legal and notarial fees and costs, as well as providing free legal advice in other parties on the same conditions as in the states of their citizenship.
Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are also members of the Chisinau Convention.
