Lukashenko Elected as Chair of All-Belarusian People’s Assembly

On April 24-25, the VII All-Belarusian People's Assembly was held in Minsk. Delegates from all regions of Belarus gathered at the Palace of the Republic today. These are representatives of the legislative, executive and judicial authorities, local councils of deputies, and civil society. This time, the Assembly is held in a new constitutional status.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko elected as Chair of the Assembly, and Assistant to the Head of State Alexander Kosinets elected as deputy Chair.

1166 people, representatives of all regions of the republic, became delegates of the VII All-Belarusian People’s Assembly. The delegates are the President, members of the Government, chairs of regional, district and city executive committees, members of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts, members of the Council of the Republic and deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, as well as 60 deputies of the Minsk City Council.

The delegate takes part in the work of the meeting without interruption from official activities. The term of office is five years.

The All-Belarusian People's Assembly is the highest representative body of the people's power of Belarus and it has been held since 1996. Amendments to the Constitution adopted following the results of the republican referendum on February 27, 2022, consolidated the special constitutional status of the National Assembly.

Now it has the power to approve the military doctrine, the concept of national security, to impose a state of emergency or martial law, and a number of others.
