MP’s of Kazakhstan and Russia Discussed Implementation of Joint Projects

Delegation of the Russian parliament’s upper house has paid an official visit to Kazakhstan. During the visit, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko held a number of meetings.
Valentina Matvienko met with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The head of state noted that the visit of the Speaker of the Federation Council was another important event not only in terms of strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, but also further expanding the entire complex of bilateral multifaceted strategic partnership.
According to him, inter-parliamentary diplomacy plays an important role in all these processes. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that the MP’s made a significant contribution to the further promotion of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two states.
Speaker of the Federation Council met with Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev.
Valentina Matvienko emphasized that the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan on 27 November had been a significant, productive and successful one. She added that MP’s would strive to do everything possible to ensure the most favorable conditions for the implementation of projects that had been agreed upon by the leaders of the countries.
Maulen Ashimbayev considers the visit of the delegation of Russian MP’s as a landmark for further strengthening strategic partnership and alliance.
According to him, the meeting in Astana would allow maintaining the high dynamics of inter-parliamentary cooperation. “Our key task is to promote the effective implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level. Our constant dialogue contributes to the systematic development of inter-parliamentary relations”.
He added that Kazakh MP’s are interested in sharing legislative experience in the tax sphere and in the field of agricultural sector development.
During the conversation, issues of education and cultural and humanitarian cooperation were also discussed. The Speaker of the Federation Council noted that the Senate of Kazakhstan approved the law on ratification of the Treaty on Establishing the International Organization for the Russian Language. She expressed confidence that in the near future the countries would start launching the practical activities of the structure created on the initiative of Kazakhstan.
Following the meeting, the heads of the upper houses of parliaments signed a Plan of Interparliamentary Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2025-2027. The document deals, in particular, with mutual visits, meetings of the Commission on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan and relevant committees, participation in international parliamentary events. Work is planned to assist in improving the regulatory framework of bilateral cooperation, to provide support in the development of interregional relations.
Also today, a meeting of the head of the Federation Council and Speaker of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Koshanov took place.
The parties noted the productive interaction of legislators within the framework of the IPA CIS, in the structures of Eurasian integration and in reputable multilateral associations.
Valentina Matvienko stressed that lawmakers showed an example of intensification of contacts almost immediately after the relevant agreements had been fixed in a document signed by the presidents of the two countries.
Erlan Koshanov noted the high organization of work and the richness of contacts between MP’s of the two countries. “We promote legislative support for the decisions of the heads of state,” - he said.
They supported the formation of the International Organization for the Russian Language, and also noted the importance of the upcoming large-scale celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.
