Meeting of Valentina Matvienko and Maulen Ashimbayev Took Place in Moscow

Valentina Matvienko, the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, met with Chair of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev in Moscow.

“The relations between the Senates of Russia and Kazakhstan are an example of interested, respectful and mutually beneficial cooperation,” said the Speaker of the Federation Council.

Maulen Ashimbayev said that the relations between Kazakhstan and Russia demonstrate an example of successful and effective bilateral cooperation.

The Chair of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan also spoke about promising areas in which MPs could intensify inter-parliamentary cooperation. The issues of conservation of ecosystems of transboundary rivers, joint fight against drug trafficking and development of cross-border cooperation were identified as priority tasks.

Valentina Matvienko spoke about parliamentary assistance to the process of expanding bilateral economic ties, including between the regions of Russia and Kazakhstan.

Valentina Matvienko and Maulen Ashimbayev signed a Plan of practical measures for the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Valentina Matvienko and Maulen Ashimbayev opened the 19^th meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate.

Russian and Kazakh parliamentarians discussed issues of enhancing cultural and humanitarian cooperation, joint activities in the environmental sphere, including the development of tourist routes in the border regions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan. 

It is expected that tomorrow Valentina Matvienko and Maulen Ashimbayev will take part in a meeting of the IPA CIS Council, which will be held at the headquarters of the organization in St. Petersburg.
