Russian Senators Adopted Statement on International Day of Parliamentarism
18 June 2020
The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation called on the parliaments of foreign countries to come together and find joint solutions to the challenges and threats that humanity is facing today.
Chairperson of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev expressed the regret that some parliaments were curtailing parliamentary ties and imposing sanctions against parliamentarians.
Russian senators believe that in search of joint solutions to modern challenges, the parliaments need to join their efforts, including within the framework of the multilateral parliamentary institutions, such as the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, the Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region, the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy and other organizations.
The statement highlighted that the active interaction of inter-parliamentary organizations in elaboration and implementation of the common agenda of the Inter-Parliamentary Union meets the interests of international parliamentarism.
