Sixth BRICS Parliamentary Forum Takes Place
27 October 2020
On 27 October 2020, the Sixth BRICS Parliamentary Forum devoted to “BRICS Partnership for Global Stability, Shared Security and Innovative Growth: Parliamentary Dimension” was held via videoconference.
The event was attended by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko. She stressed that the efforts of the five states to strengthen security and ensure economic growth needed legislative support. “Parliamentarians must promptly provide legal support for the decisions taken by executive authorities in the field of healthcare, anti-crisis economic, financial and fiscal measures. We have a huge field for exchange of best practices”, noted the Speaker.
Valentina Matvienko also emphasized increasing the level of women’s involvement in the economy and public life as one of the priorities. According to the Speaker of the Federation Council, a good example of multilateral dialogue of women MPs is the Eurasian Women’s Forum, which is to be held for the third time in St. Petersburg in September 2021.
The Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin also took part in the Forum. He focused on the contemporary challenges for the world community. “The world is changing rapidly, new threats are emerging, such as coronavirus infection. The interests of global stability require a timely response to these challenges. But instead, we see as pandemic becomes another area of political confrontation and unfair competition. We must confront this. International cooperation for the sake of health and well-being of people must effectively address these challenges”, noted Vyacheslav Volodin.
