Commonwealth of Independent States Prepares for Year of Health Protection

A group of experts is developing drafts of the Action Plan for the Year of Health Protection in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2026 and the Decision of the CIS Council of Heads of Government on this issue. The documents reflect the proposals of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

The meeting of the expert group was held on 20 March and was attended by experts from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the basic organisations of the CIS Health Cooperation Council, the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States, the CIS Executive Committee.

The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was represented at the event by Executive Secretary of the IPA CIS Expert Advisory Board on Public Health, Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights Evgeniya Vladimirova.

The plan includes events of an interstate nature as well as the most important events at the national level.

To date, the draft document contains 10 sections, which bring together more than 120 events. These include improving the Commonwealth’s health regulatory framework and interaction with the World Health Organisation.

A large block of activities relates to the holding of joint conferences, congresses and forums. The project pays special attention to the issue of young professionals.

Taking into account the comments and suggestions, the participants of the meeting decided to continue working on the draft document. It was decided to hold the next meeting on 3 April 2025.
