Council of CIS Heads of Government Held Online Meeting

On 29 May 2020, the meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government chaired by the Republic of Uzbekistan took place via videoconferencing.
Chairperson of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov chaired a meeting. The event brought together Prime Minister of the Azerbaijan Republic Ali Asadov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Sergey Rumas, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Ion Chicu, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, and Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev.
According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, the Heads of Government exchanged views on pressing issues of economic cooperation in the CIS, and also discussed a wide range of issues in other areas of the CIS activities, including the CIS joint efforts aimed at combating the spread of COVID-19 and the CIS 2030 Long-Term Economic Development Strategy.
Issues related to the cooperation between the CIS countries in the areas of economy, transport, construction, energy, as well as in the field of education, tourism, sports, culture, youth cooperation and security were also on the agenda of the meeting.
The Heads of Government also signed a joint statement on the COVID-19 situation. The statement encourages the enhanced collaboration in the development of joint documents in the field of the sanitary protection of territories, the fight against epidemiological threats, and the response to emergency situations in public health.
The heads of government approved the CIS 2030 Long-Term Economic Development Strategy. At the same time, it provides for the follow-up revision of the draft Action Plan for the implementation of the first stage (2021-2025) of the CIS 2030 Long-Term Economic Development Strategy, with due account to the situation in the CIS economy caused by the negative consequences of the COVID-19, and its consideration at the next meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government.
