Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with Sierra Leone Delegation

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with a delegation from Sierra Leone headed by Princess Betty Bio at the headquarters of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Tavricheskiy Palace.

The Secretary General told the guests about the history and key areas of the organization’s activities, including model lawmaking, international election observation, and the organization and holding of major international events.

He said that the Assembly pays great attention to the issues of combating terrorism and extremism in its work, and expressed confidence that the parties would be able to exchange useful experiences in solving these problems.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted that the Assembly is also expanding cooperation with parliamentary structures outside the Commonwealth.

The representatives of Sierra Leone recalled that their country is a member of the Economic Community of West African States, a regional organization established in 1975 and uniting 15 countries.

It was noted that ECOWAS is actively involved in conflict resolution in the region, which makes the topic of combating terrorism and extremism particularly relevant for both organizations.

They said they were interested in cooperation with the IPA CIS, including in the field of counter-terrorism activities, prevention of radicalization and strengthening regional security.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Alexey Dolzhikov, Head of the Expert and Analytical Department of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Denis Zhuk, Head of the Department for International Relations of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation Maksimillian Selyutin and Adviser of the Expert and Analytical Department of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Nadezhda Kulish.
