Draft Model Law on Environmental Monitoring was Presented to CIS Advisory Board on the Environment

On 18 October, the IX meeting of the CIS Advisory Board on the Environment was held.

The meeting was opened by Chair of the Advisory Board, minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov. In his speech, he outlined three areas of cooperation in the field of environmental security: rational use of water resources, measures to respond to climate change and subsoil use.

The event was attended by representatives of environmental agencies of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the IPA CIS, the CIS Executive Committee and the Executive Committee of the CIS Electric Power Generation Board.

Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Bahodur Sheralizoda was elected the Chair of the CIS Advisory Board on the Environment.

The members of the Advisory Board exchanged experience in the use of modern information technologies in environmental protection activities. They discussed the experience in managing atmospheric emissions, approaches and methods of rationing and accounting for emissions, assessments and forecasts of atmospheric pollution, as well as the experience in implementing an environmental insurance system.

Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva informed the participants of the meeting about the model law of the IPA CIS Model Law on Environmental Monitoring, which is under development.

The next meeting of the CIS Advisory Board on the Environment will be held in the Republic of Armenia in 2024.
