IPU Group "Eurasia" Adopted Statement Dedicated to 80th Anniversary of Victory
05 April 2025
The geopolitical group of the Interparliamentary Union “Eurasia” held a meeting within the framework of the 150th IPU Assembly in Tashkent. The parliamentarians adopted a Statement dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory.
The Statement is based on the Address of the CIS Heads of State to the world community in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The project was presented by Chair of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for Foreign Affairs and National Security Sergei Rachkov.
The geopolitical group members emphasized “eighty years ago, the multinational Soviet people won a historic Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. We are proud that, having gone through all the trials, the peoples of our States have made an invaluable contribution to achieving the final Victory over fascism”.
“Noting the special importance of the anti-Hitler coalition, we remind you that the acts of the main nazi criminals, who bear full responsibility for unleashing and waging World War II, were recognized as criminal by the verdict of the International Military Tribunal,” the document says.
The parliamentarians appealed to the world community to condemn and prevent the falsification of history, and to resolutely oppose the justification and glorification of the nazi and fascist movements, including the construction of monuments and memorials promoting racism, religious discrimination, ethnic or religious hatred, xenophobia and related intolerance in all its forms and manifestations.
The members of the group condemned the increasing attempts and cases of desecration or destruction of monuments erected in honor of those who fought against nazism during World War II, and called for respect for memorials and graves of soldiers of liberation of any nationality, wherever they are, to prevent acts of vandalism and destruction of memorials.
The document notes that the group welcomes the adoption of “The Eightieth anniversary of the end of World War II” by the United Nations General Assembly on 4 March 2025. “We consider the broad support for this important document as confirmation of the determination of the international community to prevent the repetition of the tragic mistakes of the past and to build the future on a unifying basis,” the Statement said.
The signatories of the document called on parliaments and parliamentary organizations to take an active part in holding celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory over fascism, as well as to consolidate efforts to ensure international peace and security.
Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy participated in the meeting. The IPA CIS is an associate member of the Group “Eurasia”.
