Implementation of Democratic Election Standards Discussed at IPA CIS Headquarters

The first day of the International Research and Practice Conference “CIS Convention on the Standards of Democratic Elections: Open Space for International Cooperation” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the signing of the document, was devoted to work on discussion platforms. The roundtable “Standards for Democratic Elections” discussed their implementation both in terms of enshrining certain norms in national legislation, and in terms of implementing the electoral rights of citizens during elections.
The roundtable was moderated by member of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, Member of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Practices of State-Building and Local Government Oleg Tsepkin,.
During the event, presentations were made by Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), Doctor of Law, Professor Ivan Mushket, First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Leonid Anfimov, Member of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, Candidate of Law, Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation Igor Borisov and other representatives of election authorities and academic community.
Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), Doctor of Law, Professor Ivan Mushket presented a report “International Cooperation in the Implementation of Democratic Election Standards”
During the roundtable discussion, participants exchanged views on the current state of democratic election standards and prospects for their development.
