PA CE elects new President

Today, Michele Nicoletti (from Italy) was elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
Michele Nicoletti was the only candidate to stand the elections. Under the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure, the President serves for a one-year term, which may be renewed once.
The PACE winter session will continue its work until 26 January. Acting Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Sergey Antufiev will be attending the meeting.
The Agreement on Cooperation between the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe was signed in 1997. Just recently, last year the Assemblies adopted the Joint Conclusions of Co-Chairs of the Parliamentary Conference on Combating International Terrorism was adopted in 2017, within the framework of the IPA CIS spring session, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the IPA CIS.
