IPA CIS International Observers Group Formed for Parliamentary Election in Azerbaijan

Senators and deputies of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan have joined the IPA CIS group of international observers at the election to the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Staff members of the Assembly and experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) will also take part in the monitoring of the election as part of the group.

First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Andrey Yatskin will coordinate the work of the IPA CIS group of international observers.

The observers will arrive in Azerbaijan for short-term monitoring at the end of August. A number of meetings are planned with the organizers and participants of the election campaign, the leadership of the Central Election Commission, the Constitutional Court and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Long-term monitoring of election preparations is underway. It is studying the administration of elections, the course of nomination and registration of candidates, campaigning and coverage of electoral processes, organization of observation, etc.

The expert group of the IPA CIS IIMDD analyses the compliance of the national legislation with international standards and obligations of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the electoral sphere.

The IPA CIS international observers are taking part in monitoring the elections at the invitation of Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova. Voting will take place on 1 September 2024.
