IPA CIS Observers Start Monitoring Early Voting at Parliamentary Election in Uzbekistan

On 16 October, the early voting began in the election to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, scheduled for 27 October. The IPA CIS International Observers visited polling stations at the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Moscow and a polling station at the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in St. Petersburg.

The observers familiarized themselves with the procedure of early voting and made sure that polling stations were open, precinct commissions were formed, members of the commissions were trained and started their work. The polling stations are equipped with all information materials and technical equipment provided for by the legislation of the Republic.

Consul General of Uzbekistan in St. Petersburg Abdurakhmon Makhmudov told the IPA CIS International Observers about the organization of early mobile voting for citizens of Uzbekistan in St. Petersburg and regions of the North-West of the Russian Federation, as well as about the planned activities in preparation for the main day of voting.

The early voting in the election to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, scheduled for 27 October 2024, is held 16-23 October. Voting at polling stations opened in diplomatic and other representations of the Republic of Uzbekistan in foreign countries is held from 9:00 to 18:00 local time.

The IPA CIS International observers take part in election monitoring at the invitation of Chair of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev.

The observer group included representatives of the parliaments of the IPA CIS Member Nations, staff members of the Assembly and experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD).

Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy Taalaibek Masabirov was appointed coordinator of the group of the IPA CIS international observers at the election to Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Earlier, the CEC of Uzbekistan accredited more than 60 IPA CIS observers. Among them are representatives of the parliaments of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. The group also includes staff members of the Assembly headed by Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy and the IPA CIS IIMDD experts.

In the run-up to the election, the observers will hold meetings with the leadership of the election administration bodies, representatives of the parties participating in the elections and Uzbek senators.

On 27 October, the IPA CIS observers will visit polling stations in Tashkent and other regions of Uzbekistan.

Monitoring will also be organized at foreign polling stations in nine countries: the IPA CIS observers will work in Baku, Astana, Almaty, Bishkek, Moscow, Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, Brussels, Rome, Dubai, Ankara and Paris.
