Ivan Musket: Strengthening Institution of Presidential Power will Help Protect Electoral Process
27 March 2025
On 27 March, the international scientific and practical conference “Current directions of legal support for the functioning of the CSTO collective security system for the period up to 2030” opened.
Experts and parliamentarians discussed key areas of development and improvement of the legal framework for strengthening collective security in the region.
Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), Ivan Mushket presented a report on the topic of “Issues of Protecting Electoral Sovereignty”. He stated that during election campaigns, the Commonwealth countries face numerous attempts at foreign interference in the electoral process.
Attempts at interference were observed in the Russian presidential election in 2024, the presidential election in Belarus, and the parliamentary election in Tajikistan in 2025.
Threats to the electoral sovereignty of the CIS countries require the adoption of appropriate countermeasures, the director of the IPA CIS IIMDD believes.
“The main way to counter such challenges is to strengthen the institutions of state power, primarily the presidential government,” Ivan Musket emphasized.
