On Experience of CIS and Latin American Countries in Electoral Processes to be Discussed at International Forum

From 1 to 3 October, 2025, St. Petersburg will host the seventh international forum “Russia and Ibero-America in a Turbulent World: From Shared Challenges to Joint Solutions.”

The co-organizers of the event, along with St. Petersburg State University and the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences, will include the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA CIS). The International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) will hold a roundtable comparing the experiences of CIS and Latin American countries in electoral processes.

The event will bring together experts, scholars, parliamentarians, and representatives of government bodies and international organizations. They will discuss the evolution of electoral systems, the role of digital tools in transforming electoral processes, innovative approaches and best practices, the role of international monitoring groups in fostering trust in elections, as well as the challenges posed by the politicization of observer activities.

Special attention will be given to the need to involve the younger generation in electoral processes, sharing experiences in educational programs, social campaigns, and projects.

As part of the forum, an international conference titled “On the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory: Pages of Shared History of Russia (the USSR) and the Countries of Ibero-America” will be held, along with expert events including a special session of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO) on “Challenges for Social Sciences in the Geopolitics of the Modern World” and an expert session of the “Global Energy” association on “Energy Transition Challenges: Real Experience of Latin American Countries.” The program will also feature master classes, roundtables, thematic sections, youth events, presentations of scholarly publications and journals, exhibitions, and other cultural activities.
