Results of work of Baku Office of IPA CIS IIMDD CIS Discussed at Tavricheskiy Palace

On March 12, a meeting was held to summarise the work of the Baku office of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) in 2024. The event was held in the form of a video bridge between St. Petersburg and Baku.

The event was opened by Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat - Director of IPA CIS IIMDD Ivan Musket. He noted that the participation of parliamentarians and representatives of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan in the meeting underlines the importance and relevance of the office work.

The meeting was attended by Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Aydin Jafarov, Chair of the Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Defence, Security and Counter-Corruption Arzu Nagiyev, member of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan Ilkin Shahbazov, experts of the Institute and staff of the Secretariat. 

Director of the Baku office of the IPA CIS IIMDD Ramin Rzayev informed about the office work in 2024.

He spoke about the participation of the office staff in monitoring the election campaigns in the Commonwealth in 2024: the parliamentary elections in Belarus and Uzbekistan, and the presidential elections in Russia.

Four scientific research papers were published in Azerbaijani and Russian.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted that the office had carried out a large amount of work in various directions. He added that the importance of this activity was noted by Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova.

The Secretary General also focused on the results of scientific research activities, and called for the involvement of students and representatives of youth associations in them.

Aydin Jafarov noted that the office actively cooperates with the Milli Majlis and the Central Election Commission. The Plenipotentiary Representative considers it important to share the experience gained in the field of elections in the CIS region.

Ivan Musket stressed the importance of the research carried out by the Office. With their help, parliamentarians and representatives of electoral authorities of the CIS countries can learn about the processes taking place in Azerbaijan.
