Taalaibek Masabirov Appointed as Coordinator of IPA CIS Observer Group for Parliamentary Election in Uzbekistan

By the order of the Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy Taalaibek Masabirov was appointed coordinator of the group of the IPA CIS international observers at the election to Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The observer group included representatives of the parliaments of the IPA CIS Member Nations, staff members of the Assembly and experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD).
The IPA CIS International observers take part in election monitoring at the invitation of the Chair of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zayniddin Nizamkhodjaev.
The election to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis will be held on 27 October 2024. For the first time in the history of Uzbekistan, it will be held on a mixed basis. 75 deputies will be elected under a majority voted system, where voters vote for specific candidates, and another 75 – under a proportional system by voting for political parties.
The IPA CIS Observer Group is conducting long-term monitoring of the electoral campaign, which included a meeting with the leadership of the CEC of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the parties that have nominated candidates for the upcoming elections.
