Industry Experts Noted Relevance of Development of IPA CIS Model Law on Radioactive Waste Management

On 24 October, a meeting of the expert group of the CIS Base Organization for the management of spent nuclear fuel, radioactive waste and decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities was held via videoconference.
The participants discussed the issues of unification and harmonization of documents in the field of normative-legal and normative-technical regulation of the Commonwealth countries and, in particular, the IPA CIS draft Model Law on Radioactive Waste Management.
The importance and relevance of the development of the discussed Law was noted, as well as harmonization of efforts of state authorities of the Commonwealth countries to improve legal regulation in the field of radioactive waste management. The participants made a number of proposals on the draft document.
The meeting was attended by representatives of nuclear energy authorities, specialized agencies and organizations of the CIS countries.
The Secretariat of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was represented at the event by Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva.
