Ways to Support and Regulate Creative Industries Discussed at SPIEF Roundtable

On 20 June, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) hosted a roundtable discussion “The Cultural DNA of Russian Brands.” The event was organized by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS.

The participants discussed how creative industries influence economic development and how traditional motifs become the basis for modern branding. The experts raised the issue of preserving cultural identity in the era of globalization, as well as the role of young people in reinterpreting national traditions and the importance of international cooperation for the growth of the creative sector.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted “in recent decades, creative industries have become increasingly important for the economic growth of the CIS countries”.

“We are witnessing a global trend where these industries are being perceived in a different way, which requires appropriate legislative regulation. Currently, the Assembly is preparing a model law on creative industries,” said the Secretary General, adding that parliamentarians from all the CIS countries had joined the development and discussion of the document.

In addition, Dmitriy Kobitskiy said that the IPA CIS has a number of projects aimed at developing the creative industries.

This year, from 17 to 19 November, the International Forum “Commonwealth of Fashion” will be held for the fourth time, in collaboration with the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. The project has become an effective platform for dialogue between representatives of the light industry, fashion business, relevant ministries, and educational institutions in the CIS countries.

The specialized events also focus on the potential for developing the tourism industry in the CIS countries. On 1-2 October, the international Travel Hub “Commonwealth” Forum will be held in Dagestan (the Russian Federation), where the issues of the tourism industry and hospitality will be discussed.
