Experts Discussed Impact of Climate Change on Health and Ways to Address Problems

Health experts presented reports on “Climate Change and Health: Shaping a Resilient Future”. The event was part of a series of hearings organised by the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe.

Participants discussed possible solutions to climate and health challenges, as well as ways to strengthen and expand partnerships to catalyse action on climate change.

The need to slow climate change, mitigate its effects and conserve biodiversity in the face of a growing world population was emphasized.

The proposals and ideas of the participants of the hearings will be reflected in the second European Programme of Work 2026-2030 (EPW2).

On behalf of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the hearings were attended by Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights, Executive Secretary of the IPA CIS Expert Advisory Board on Public Health Evgenia Vladimirova, Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology Natalia Amburtseva, Head of the External Relations Department Maksimilian Selyutin and Consultant of the External Relations Department Anastasia Kozlova.

On 20 April 2018, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the WHO Regional Office for Europe signed a Memorandum of Understanding defining the goals and principles of their interaction. As part of the cooperation between the organisations, extensive joint work is being carried out on model legislation on medical care and public health in the CIS, primarily through the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights and the IPA CIS Expert Advisory Board on Public Health.
