IPA CIS Develops Model Law on Ensuring State Protection of Cultural Heritage at Water Bodies of CIS Member Nations

A meeting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sport was held in St. Petersburg today. The event was chaired by the Deputy Chair of the Commission, Chair of the Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Culture Polad Bulbuloglu.

The MPs were briefed on the progress of work on a Model Law on Protecting Children from Information Harmful to their Health and Development.

The commission members also discussed the progress of work on the draft Model Law on Ensuring State Protection of Cultural Heritage at Water Bodies of the CIS Member Nations.

It was noted that the issues of protecting cultural heritage on water bodies are insufficiently reflected in the legislation of the CIS countries.

The document will help prevent the loss of cultural values due to economic activities; regulate relations during research and rescue operations; establish liability for damage to objects; harmonize the norms of different branches of law and CIS countries.

The meeting participants also discussed the draft of a Revised Model Law on Benevolence and Charity.

A representative of the Eurasian Alliance of Mountain Resorts, Deputy General Director for International Relations and Tourism at the Rosa Khutor mountain resort Sergey Khvorostyany proposed including the development of a Model Law on Tourism in Specially Protected Areas in the Long-Term Plan for Model Lawmaking in the Commonwealth of Independent States for 2026-2028.

The next meeting of the commission is scheduled for October-November 2025.
