Representatives from over 70 Сountries took part in XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress

The key event of the XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress was the plenary session “Ecology of the New Reality: Opportunities and Challenges”. It took place at the Tavricheskiy Palace.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants. He said: “The slogan of the current Congress, Planet Earth: Harmony of Man and Nature, reflects the common striving of the international community to preserve and restore the environment as a vital component of sustainable development. This should primarily be achieved by complying with environmental safety requirements, safeguarding specially protected natural territories, ensuring the rational use of natural resources, building a closed-loop economy, and launching and implementing the relevant government programmes.”

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko also delivered a speech and confirmed her commitment to advancing a constructive environmental agenda.

The XI Nevsky International Ecological Congress was attended by representatives from over 70 countries. There was a high level of international representation among the participants.  These included heads and high officials of parliaments, governmentministries, and officials from the CIS countries, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Serbia, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Mozambique, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Ghana, and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.

In attendance were the leaders and high officials of international organizations such as the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, the International Union for Conservation of Nature Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the Environmental Protection Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Large corporations were also represented by the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom.

The Congress will conclude with the adoption of the Final Resolution, which has been amended to take into account the proposals made at the plenary session.

The Congress was organized by the Government of the Russian Federation, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation.
