Historians from CIS Countries Published Joint Book Dedicated to Contribution of Commonwealth Peoples to Victory in Great Patriotic War

Under the auspices of the International Association of Historians and Archivists of the CIS Countries, the monograph “The Peoples of the Soviet Union and the Great Victory. 1941-1945” was published. This collective work is dedicated to the contribution of all the peoples of the USSR to the victory over Nazi Germany and its allies during the World War II and the Great Patriotic War.

The book was prepared by leading experts of the national academies of sciences from 11 countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The project, created on behalf of the Council of the CIS Heads of State, has become a contribution to preserving historical memory and strengthening international academic cooperation.

The presentation of the book took place at the International Scientific Conference “80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the World War II”. Academic Director of the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Aleksandr Chubaryan noted that the publication, free from ideological clichés, explored the phenomenon of the unity of the peoples of the USSR. By addressing this topic, it aims to shape the historical worldview of future generations.

The monograph can serve as a basis for educational materials for schools and universities in the CIS countries, as well as a academic reference for further research on the little-studied pages of the war.
