Central Election Commission of Moldova Hosted a Meeting With IPA CIS Observers

The IPA CIS international observers headed by Team Coordinator, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Adil Aliyev met with Chair of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Moldova Dorin Cimil.

Dorin Cimil told the international observers about the work of the CEC of Moldova on the organization of the presidential elections, challenges and innovations of the current electoral campaign.

He told that the voter lists included 3,2 million voters. 2,143 polling stations are formed in Moldova, 139 foreign polling stations are open abroad, including the Italian Republic (30), the Russian Federation (17), Romania (13) and the USA (12).

42 polling stations will operate on the right bank of the Dniester river, which will allow citizens living on the left bank to vote in the elections.

Dorin Cimil mentioned such innovations as scanners for ID documents, which will facilitate the registration process and avoid queues.

The representatives of the election commission also noted the measures taken to protect the voters in the face of the COVID-19, including the masks, thermometers, sanitizers, mobile ballot boxes and protective suits. The voting procedure for the people with confirmed coronavirus infection was also adjusted.

Adil Aliyev told on the composition of the IPA CIS Observer Team and its work schedule at the elections of the President of the Republic of Moldova. He also handed over to Dorin Cimil the results of the long-term monitoring and the Conclusion on the Compliance of the Legislation Regulating the Presidential Elections in the Republic of Moldova with international standards.

43 observers from the IPA CIS were accredited for the monitoring of the elections at the polling stations in Moldova and abroad. The Observer Team includes the representatives of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the IPA CIS Council Secretariat representatives, including the staff members and experts from the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development (IPA CIS IIMDD).

Tomorrow, on the election day, the observers will work at the polling stations in Chisinau, as well as at the foreign polling stations.
