IPA CIS Observers Met with Kazakh Authorities Before Parliamentary Elections

On 18 March, during the short term monitoring of the parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan, the IPA CIS Observer Team held several meetings in Astana.

Deputy Chair of Standing Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on Regional and Eurasian Integration Vagharshak Hakobyan and Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Ermukhambet Konuspaev. Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development Ivan Mushket also attended the meeting.

Participants discussed working of observers during the upcoming elections and innovations in the current election campaign.

The IPA CIS Observer Team also met with Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Abdirov.

The CEC was informed about the composition of the Team, stages and current results of long-term monitoring and the geography of observation. Nurlan Abdirov told about the work of the Commission with non-profit organizations, media, local authorities, law enforcement bodies and observers.

On the same day, a meeting with the governing party of the country “Amanat” was held. Leadership of the pre-election headquarters and the observers discussed the design of the election campaign and working with voters, including the youth.
