IPA CIS Observers Met with Leaderhip of Parliament of Republic of Kazakhstan.

Today, CIS international observers met with the leaders of both chambers of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan as part of the short-term monitoring of the referendum on amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A discussion with Vice-Speaker of the chamber Askar Shakirov took place in the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation, the Judicial System and Law Enforcement Agencies Vladimir Volkov and Deputy Speaker of the Committee on Finance and Budget Sultanbek Makezhanov also attended the meeting.

On the same day, the Observer Team met with Speaker of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Koshanov. Chair of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense, and Security Aigul Kuspan and Chair of the Committee on Legislation and Judicial and Legal Reform of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Kozhakhmetov also attended the meeting.

The parties discussed the referendum preparations as well as the specifics of reforming the country’s legal system.

The Observer Team included parliamentarians from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives from the IPA CIS Council Secretariat, including IPA CIS IIMDD experts.
