IPA CIS Observer Team Visited Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Republic of Tajikistan

As a part of the short-term monitoring of the elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan the IPA CIS Observer Team headed by IPA CIS Observer Team Coordinator, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Inoyatov met with Chairperson of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda.

Ulugbek Inoyatov introduced the members of the Team, shared with Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda the results of the long-term monitoring of the preparation for the elections as well as the text of the Conclusion on the Compliance of the Legislation Regulating the Elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan with International Electoral Standards.

The Chairperson of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda described its work and outlined the activity of district and local election commissions of the Republic of Tajikistan since the announcement of the elections on 4 December 2019 until the election silence day. He noted the increasing professionalism of the Commission members at all levels, their willingness to cooperate with regional and local authorities and their openness in the work with the media. Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda hoped that the international observers would give an objective assessment of the elections.

The Observer Team includes MPs from eight IPA CIS Member Nations: the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the representatives of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat including the IIMDD IPA CIS experts.
