Ulugbek Inoyatov and Dmitriy Kobitskiy Took Part in Press Conference on Results of Election Monitoring in Republic of Tajikistan

In Dushanbe, a press conference of the Observer Mission from the Commonwealth of Independent States was held on the results of monitoring of elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan. Head of the Mission, Chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergey Lebedev told reporters that the parliamentary elections in Tajikistan were recognized by the CIS observers as legitimate, democratic and competitive.

The final press conference was attended by Coordinator of the IPA CIS Observer Team at the elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Inoyatov and Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy. They presented to journalists the conclusion of the IPA CIS Observer Team on the results of long-term and short-term monitoring of the election campaign.

Ulugbek Inoyatov stated that the elections to the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan held on 1 March 2020 had been held in compliance with national legislation, consistent with generally accepted democratic principles and standards for the organization of free and fair elections, as well as international commitments of the Republic of Tajikistan.

In turn, Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted the highly professional work of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan in the preparation of elections and, as a result, the high organizational level of the election campaign.

According to the results of the monitoring, the IPA CIS Observer Team recognized that the voting procedures were carried out in strict accordance with the electoral legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan. Each voter had the right to equal and unhindered access to the polling station in order to exercise his or her voting right. Voting was carried out in properly equipped polling booths. No facts of interference in the work of the election commissions by administrative or law enforcement authorities have been detected at the polling stations where the monitoring was conducted.

On the election day, on 1 March 2020, the IPA CIS Observer Team attended different stages of voting – from the opening of polling stations to the counting of votes by local election commissions. The observers in total visited eight district election commissions and 93 polling stations located in Dushanbe, four regions of national significance and in the settlements of Khatlon region. Moreover, the representatives of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat performed monitoring of voting at foreign polling stations in the Azerbaijan Republic, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation.
