Valentina Matvienko: "Interparliamentary Cooperation is Important Aspect of Interstate Relations"

The meetings of Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko with Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva and Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov took place in the margins of the official visit of the delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In her speech at the meeting with Tanzila Narbaeva Valentina Matvienko noted that Uzbekistan was a long-standing partner for Russia. “For the last 3 years our countries have achieved a significant progress in extending and deepening of bilateral relations in economic, political, humanitarian areas –”. Furthermore, according to Valentina Matvienko, the quality of trade and economic cooperation has also grown: this includes not only mutual exports of products, but also the high-tech projects and the total Russian investments in the economy of Uzbekistan.

The Speaker welcomed the return of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, which is also an important platform for parliamentary dialogue and joint development of model laws, facilitating harmonization of national legislation.

In her turn, Tanzila Narbaeva congratulated Valentina Matvienko on re-election to the post of the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

The meeting of Valentina Matvienko with Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nurdinjon Ismoilov took place on the same day. The Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council stressed the necessity to step-up the inter-parliamentary dialogue.

Nurdinjon Ismoilov spoke on the activity of the lower chamber of the parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan, noting the increase in the number of women members and the rise of their role in the public and political life of the Republic.

The meetings were also attended by Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy and members of the delegation of the Federation Council, including Deputy Chair of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Ilyas Umakhanov, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Andrey Kutepov, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov, etc.
