Vyacheslav Volodin: "The Republic of Uzbekistan is a strategic partner and an ally in the Central Asia"

During the official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, member of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin held negotiations with members of the IPA CIS Council, heads of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva and Nurdinjon Ismoilov, as well as met with the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

During the conversation with Nurdinjon Ismoilov, Vyacheslav Volodin commended the development of relations between the countries in various fields, including economics, business, and humanitarian cooperation. “The Republic of Uzbekistan is a strategic partner and an ally in the Central Asia for us”, stated the Speaker of the State Duma. Vyacheslav Volodin noted that the trade between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan had grown by 21.2% and reached 4.4 billion dollars the year before. He also mentioned that 2.2 million citizens from the Republic of Uzbekistan worked in the Russian Federation, and another 29 thousand studied there. At the same time, there are six branches of Russian universities in the Republic of Uzbekistan, and four more will be opened in the near future.

Nurdinjon Ismoilov thanked Vyacheslav Volodin for his personal input in the development of relations between the two countries and emphasized the increased inter-parliamentary relations between the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

Acknowledging the great importance of parliamentary cooperation in the development of bilateral relations, Vyacheslav Volodin and Nurdinjon Ismoilov signed the Agreement on Inter-Chamber Parliamentary Cooperation, which is expected to facilitate strengthening of the relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan in various fields of mutual interest.

The meeting of Vyacheslav Volodin with Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva took place on the same day. The parties discussed the issues related to further strengthening and developing of inter-parliamentary relations, emphasizing their willingness to continue cooperation within the framework of international parliamentary institutions: the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

During the meeting of Vyacheslav Volodin and Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed various aspects of bilateral relations, including the humanitarian area. The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan informed the Speaker about the International Festival of Applied Arts held in Kokand. Vyacheslav Volodin proposed holding an exhibition of Uzbek decorative and applied art in the State Duma. The Speaker also noted the importance of cooperation within the inter-parliamentary institutions, particularly, the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. The invitations to participate in the plenary meeting of the CSTO PA as observers have already been sent to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
