Valentina Matvienko and Viktoria Abramchenko Took Stock of Ninth Nevsky International Ecological Congress

The Ninth Nevsky International Ecological Congress finished its work in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the headquarters of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. The outcomes of two-day deliberations were presented at the final press conference by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Viktoria Abramchenko.

According to Valentina Matvienko, the Congress brought together the representatives from 30 countries, who participated in the work of 10 roundtables. She attached particular importance to the development of joint measures to protect the environment and noted that a great number of new ideas and proposals made during the Congress that could be further used in the environmental protection activities. Valentina Matvienko also told about the law-making activities in this field at both national and international levels – in the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

Viktoria Abramchenko noted that the event showed the common understanding of the issues raised. She particularly stressed the issue of waste management and the circular economy.

The Congress is co-organized by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.
