14th Meeting of Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations Takes Place in Tavricheskiy Palace

The 14th Meeting of the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters.

The event brought together the young parliamentary delegations from the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as experts and members of youth organizations. Coordinator of the YIPA CIS, Member of the Committee of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Policy Kiyomiddin Miraliyon presided the meeting.

The meeting also discussed the media project “Lines of Memory” dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The project will represent a series of video messages, where the war and post-war poetry of the CIS authors will be read line by line by a veteran, an MP, a public figure and a youth representative. The first presentation of the project is scheduled for the 2020 during the IPA CIS plenary session dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The MPs exchanges views on the role of the YIPA CIS in the implementation of the IPA CIS plan of actions dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945.

The meeting focused on such issues as development of political culture and increasing the youth electoral activity. The representatives of each youth parliamentary delegations told about the experience in this field and the last trends such as increased representation of young deputies in the national parliaments, interest in the elections and forming civic responsibility, encouraging active and passive participation of the youth in the elections.

Invited expert, Head of the Russian Training Center of Electoral Technologies at the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation Natalia Artykaeva told the participants on the experience of work with young and future voters and the key projects of the Center and came up with the idea to organize such events on the international scale.

The participants recognized the relevance of the work carried out in the field of development of political culture and electoral activity of the youth and decided to continue the cooperation with the IIMDD IPA CIS in organizing a joint conference on this issue.

The participants agreed on the concept of the Recommendations on Procedure of Organization, Status and Activities of Youth Election Commissions at Electoral Authorities of the CIS Member Nations, considered the progress of implementation of the comparative legal analysis of the activities of the CIS youth public organizations, discussed the relevant issues of the model law-making and exchanged information on the latest trends in national legislation in the field of youth policy and promotion of the rights and interests of young people.

The meeting also considered the cooperation with the Youth Chamber at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia and identified the main areas of cooperation within youth parliamentarianism movement.
