CIS Observers: Parliamentary Elections in Kyrgyzstan were open and fair

A press conference of the CIS Observer Mission was held in Bishkek to present the findings of international observers regarding the elections of members of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The event was attended by Head of the CIS Mission, First Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Igor Petrishenko, coordinator of the group of international observers from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, Chair of the Committee of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Ensuring Constitutional Rights of the Citizens, Law and Order Mahmadali Vatanzoda, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy as well as other representatives of the Commonwealth states.
The observers noted that the central, district, and precinct election commissions ensured proper equipment of the polling stations. All stages of the electoral process – from nominating and registering candidates to counting votes – were carried out in accordance with the Constitutional Law.
The CIS Mission concluded that the elections were open, fair, competitive, and fully compliant with democratic standards, ensuring the free expression of will by citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan took place on 30 November. As part of short‑term monitoring, the IPA CIS international observers held meetings with the leadership of the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The findings of the IPA CIS monitoring group will form the basis of the final report on the electoral campaign.
